The painting and drawing classes are intended to develop drawing skills and help students engage confidently with the outside world, producing meaningful responses to what they see. Drawing is one aspect of this process but developing relationships with all types of media is also core to these classes.
Within the sessions, I like to cover a range of subjects over each term. In every topic covered there is an element of flexibility which allows people to pursue their own interests within the class time.
Lessons are 2 hours long and I offer one to one input with everyone.
The class can be used for experimentation. This includes the use of different materials, mixed media or simply pushing certain materials as far as they can go.
As well as art, the class offers an interesting social space where friendships are struck up over shared interests. I run a couple of residentials, some away day trips to art galleries and the odd day out painting.
The cost is £60 for a six-weekly block or £12 for a one-off drop in session. If anyone would like to join us on Wednesday 7-9pm or Thursday 10am-12 noon and 1-3pm, please get in touch with me through the contacts page
There is also a drawing drop in session on Wednesday’s 10-1pm. This is £15 per session and must be paid in advance to ensure a place.
Classes are held in my studio in Fulford, York.
There are weekend workshops in portraiture, colour mixing, life drawing and abstraction. Residential weekends to Staithes and the Yorkshire Dales are also annual events. Please contact me for more details and to book a place.
